Roofing industry stalwart David Callaghan retires

David Callaghan, a highly respected figure in the pitched roofing sector, is retiring after 42 years of service with Redland and BMI UK & Ireland.

David’s career has seen him become a key voice in specification and technical sales across Ireland, a statement said.

Starting out as an architectural technician, he joined Redland in 1983 and, over the years, became a go-to expert for architects and specifiers, known for his deep technical knowledge.

David’s colleague and long-time manager, John Cuthell, divisional sales director at BMI UK & Ireland, said: “Over the years David has built an exceptional reputation among specifiers and architects as being one of the most respected authorities within the pitched roofing sector. His knowledge and experience is, without doubt, second to none.

“David has, at all times, been loyal, professional, humble. It’s been my absolute pleasure working with him. We will all miss him, but wish him every success in his well-earned retirement.”

David added: “So, after 42 years, three months and four days of association with the Redland brand, the time has come for me to hand back the laptop, iPad and mobile phone and hang up the safety boots, safety helmet and hi-vis jacket. I’ll keep the scale rule, pitch finder and protractor as souvenirs.

“I’ve had the immense privilege of representing this prestigious, time-honoured and much-coveted brand on the island of Ireland, and would wish to record my thanks and appreciation of the successive management teams for their support, guidance and direction over those years.

“Thanks too to all my amazing fellow employees – too many to mention – who’ve helped me in so many ways to further the business in the Emerald Isle. It just remains for me to wish the company, and every one of you, continued success.”
