Russell Roof Tiles has donated £4,000 between two life-saving charities local to its sites in Burton on Trent and Lochmaben.

Like many businesses, the roof tile manufacturer felt the damaging impact of COVID-19, but is committed to continuing to support local causes within the community, which led to the creation of a special ‘Community Fund,’ which allowed a number of charities to share and benefit.

Since 2015, Russell Roof Tiles has raised £80,000 with the support of customers, suppliers, friends, family, and staff across its sites.

Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity and Dumfries and Galloway Health Board Endowment Fund each received £2,000.

Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity delivers care for local people, bringing together the expertise of over 18,000 staff across five hospital sites. Each year, the trust provides funds that improve patient welfare, equipment, research, and staff training.

Meanwhile, the Dumfries and Galloway Health Board Endowment Fund supports the improvement of health and wellbeing of communities in the area served by NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

Andrew Hayward, managing director at Russell Roof Tiles, said: “At Russell Roof Tiles, we are dedicated to supporting fantastic organisations that go above and beyond to help people in our communities.

“We are thrilled that during a very turbulent time for many businesses, we are able to offer support to two charities that are pivotal in the fight against the coronavirus. The money donated is important, as it will go some way to providing a vital and lifesaving service that we feel privileged to contribute towards.”

Welcoming this donation, a spokesperson for NHS Dumfries and Galloway, said: “This £2,000 donation comes as a great boost and special thanks goes to Russell Roof Tiles.

“Our staff are doing an amazing job during this unprecedented disruption to daily lives. Over the past six months, increased support and advice, for both physical and mental health, has been given to staff and teams.”

Tim Diggle, charity director at Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity, added: “We are so grateful for this really generous donation. It is brilliant to see such fantastic fundraising in support of our hospitals. We know that the money raised will go a huge way to supporting our staff, and we are so grateful for this gift – it means a great deal to us.”
