SIG Roofing supports apprentice championships

SIG Roofing will be contributing products to National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) for the annual CITB SkillBuild competition.

SIG Roofing has supplied key products including nails, 5U Eaves underlay and hip iron to the competition. SkillBuild 2022 challenges apprentices from colleges across the country to showcase their knowledge and abilities in competitive heats.

Including all trades from roofers to carpenters, the apprentices must demonstrate they’ve got the skills to beat their fellow rivals. For the roofing apprentices, the 6-hour competition requires they install 5U felt, underlay and battens to receive plain tiles and bedded ridges according to instructions set. Judges monitor to ensure they are installing correctly during and at the end, evaluate competitors’ accuracy and ability to follow instructions.

Simon Dixon, training manager at NFRC said: “SIG Roofing has kindly supplied all of the fixings required for the SkillBuild regional heats. The competitors each have new packs of felt studs, batten nails, alloy nails and new hip irons. SIG Roofing has also supplied the 5U eaves felt for the competition. Any surplus nails and materials not used during the heats are left with the colleges and training centres for them to use in the regular everyday training, so the support continues long after the heat has finished.”
