SPRA manufacturers come together

Last week, eight membrane manufacturers of the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA) joined representatives from the Roofing Industry Alliance (RIA) and SPRA Assessor Alex Carmichael at a special SPRA workshop to share best practice and get updated on developments to the Basic Competency Programme (BCP).

Representatives from Axter, CCM, Danosa, Firestone, IKO, Langley, Protan and Sika took part in the workshop that included advice and support in helping them to promote and support the BCP to approved contractors and the industry as a whole.

The workshop also generated important discussion on the potential for SPRA members to work together to influence new training qualifications and courses.

The BCP is a manufacturer course that has been approved by SPRA and provides a certified route to a special 3-year Experienced Worker CSCS card.

The aim of the programme is to get experienced workers on the way to achieving their Level 2 NVQ in single ply and a blue Skilled Worker CSCS card – demonstrating their skills, knowledge and experience, and helping to keep them on site.

SPRA says all membrane manufacturers have expressed interest in delivering the BCP, and it hopes that all 16 will be approved this year.

If you are a contractor and want to know more about this programme, please contact Janine Gladwin (BCP administrator) or take a look at the SPRA website for details on the BCP and the Association’s routes to Level 2 NVQ in single ply.
