SR Timber has reported strong sales performance for 2017, which was fuelled by continued demand for its SR Timber Premium Gold roofing batten.

Sales of the roofing batten were up 29%, compared to figures for the previous year, and the company believes that the quality of batten, the availability of stock, and its ability to fulfil orders quickly were the potent combination of factors behind the strong sales growth.

Trading director Shaun Revill is delighted at SR Timber’s performance for 2017 and said that Premium Gold roofing batten continues to surpass all expectations. He said: “Fundamentally, Premium Gold is a fantastic product, and the roofing industry is responding to it because they can rely on it – in terms of both its quality and performance. Crucially, it’s fully graded and compliant to BS5534.”

Shaun continued: “Sales to our existing customers continue to rise, but what was most pleasing in 2017 was the fact that we were able to introduce Premium Gold to contractors, roofers and builders who hadn’t used it before – and not only were they very impressed with it, it also translated into repeat orders.

“However, it’s not just having great products that helps to drive sales – our ability to process and deliver orders (typically within 48 hours) is setting us apart as a reliable supplier of a quality product.”

Shaun also pointed to the strength, robustness and reliability of SR Timber’s supply chain infrastructure as the cornerstone of the company’s success in underpinning strong sales.

“We are only as strong as our supply chain, and we continually test the strength of every link in our supply chain so that it stands up to scrutiny, ensuring that we have plentiful supplies of timber roofing batten,” he added.

“We have a regular and ongoing dialogue with all of our supply chain, including the Latvian government. We are in constant touch with our sawmill to discuss production and output levels, and we maintain close control of our logistics network – which includes shipping finished products to our timber terminals in the UK.

“We’re continually monitoring the whole situation and can assure the industry that we have the scale of production to flex our capacity to support our customers’ and suppliers’ needs.”

Sales of timber batten account for the lion’s share of SR Timber’s revenue, but the company also saw strong growth in other areas, such as a 52% increase in sales of scaffold boards after increasing its customer base of scaffolding companies who placed orders for the company’s Kitemarked boards.

Praising the SR Timber team, who are based at the company’s head office in Huthwaite, North Nottinghamshire, Shaun concluded: “We run a tight ship at SR Timber, and it’s an incredible achievement that such a relatively small team pulled together and delivered such a phenomenal set of numbers. It goes to show the level of expertise and dedication we have within the business that in a short space of time, we have grown to become the UK’s first choice for roofing batten, and we are gaining momentum with other products such as cedar shingles and scaffold boards.”
