Cricketing legend Dickie Bird was recently invited to the official opening of MKM Building Supplies’ new branch in Barnsley.
To mark the launch, MKM Barnsley is pledging its support to The Dickie Bird Foundation – a charity that is committed to helping young people under the age of 16 participate, to the best of their ability, in the sport of their choice, irrespective of the social circumstances, culture or ethnicity.
Dickie said: “Sport is a massive part of life in Yorkshire and for many of MKM’s customers. I am therefore delighted that this local independent business is supporting the foundation and all the great things we do in the community.”
Open to both the trade and the public, MKM’s new Barnsley branch, the company’s 85th branch opening across the UK, is conveniently located on the Peel Trade Park, creating 16 new jobs in the area.
Heading up MKM Barnsley are co-branch directors Mark Winstanley and John Lea. They both have extensive local knowledge of the building trade in Barnsley and the wider area, as well as years of industry experience.
Mark said: “This is a state-of-the-art facility that provides a one-stop-shop for all building products, including heavyside, heating and plumbing, landscaping, roofing, electrical, drainage and civils, insulation and plaster board, workwear and timber, sheet and joinery.”
John added: “The opening of the branch marks a three-year journey for me and Mark, and one that we are both extremely proud of. From identifying the location on the Peel Trade Park, to seeing this brand-new facility being built, and now officially opening our doors and being able to bring employment into the area has been a fantastic achievement.”
