Icopal has provided thousands of square metres of its flame retardant scaffold sheeting to the Embassy Gardens development close to the River Thames in Battersea.

Located adjacent to the new U.S. Embassy, the development will create a total of 2,000 new homes comprising a mix of luxury suites, one and two bedroom apartments and three bedroom penthouses. Around 9,000m2 was supplied to the project to provide a protective and secure enclosure to the scaffold for the site team.

With the complex shapes of the residential buildings, its proximity to the River Thames and the potential for strong winds, the site’s traditional tube and fitting scaffold design had to be clad effectively with high performance flame retardant sheeting during construction.

Icopal’s Monarflex Scaffband Flamesafe scaffold sheeting was secured to a purpose-designed scaffold screen framework to ensure it remained in place. This provided a flush finish, whilst extending the life span of the product.

The sheeting was supplied to Millcroft Scaffolding, which is providing independent access scaffolding to six blocks of the development, some of which rise to 55m high.

Sam Jones, director at Millcroft Scaffolding, said: “Monarflex is a high grade of scaffold sheeting that is less likely to fray or tear, a benefit that was key due to the development’s proximity to the Thames. What’s more, with the development’s prime location, we felt that the product we used to weatherproof the scaffold needed to be of the highest durability and quality, as ultimately it’s an advert for our company and the main contractor, Ballymore Group. For this, its crisp visual appearance is ideal. In fact, being on Nine Elms Lane, where there is a large amount of traffic, it is actually one of Millcroft’s main adverts during this current period.”

The project, for client and main contractor, is currently on site and due for completion in early 2016.
