SPV work alongside the NEC to deliver Project Facelift!

Walsall-based roofing contractors, SPV Group, have recently completed the cladding works as part of Project Facelift, part of the recent £4.5 million-pound transformation at the NEC.

The project which was procured directly by The NEC was managed by CBRE with Base Structures, Ultimate Coatings and SPV Group looking after the specific aspects of the installation.

SPV’s remit was the installation of designed metal rainscreen cassette panel cladding, complete with bespoke flashings.

The new design also includes 37 translucent pyramid structures – created by architects Acivico – that can be backlit to create a visual effect. Each trapezoid is the size of a three-storey house and has three powerful floodlights that are programmed to produce any colour.

Sandwiched between the pyramids are a series of colour panels, all 10 metres high, designed by McCann.

The project is said to have not only transformed and modernised the building, which was originally built in 1976, but has also made the area a far more dynamic and engaging environment for all customers and set the NEC apart as one of the ‘best leisure destinations in the country’.

SPV presented at The Big Reveal earlier this month where the new facelift was unveiled to the industry, press and public and all parties were acknowledged for their hard work and commitment to deliver the project on time and on budget.

Kathryn James, managing director for NEC Group Conventions and Exhibitions, said: “We have seen our NEC campus change radically over the past three years. We began our journey as an exhibition venue, and are now a thriving 24/7 business and leisure destination. We are attracting more and more visitors each year as the amazing content hosted by our exhibitions, conferences, live events and attractions – both on campus and within the NEC – develops.

“This transformation that we fondly call Project Facelift, has given the venue a modern and impactful look which is a great fit with the exciting developments on campus – happening right now and in the future.”

Following completion of the Project Facelift works, SPV are now a preferred supplier for the NEC and will be completing phases two and three in 2019 and 2020, which includes the installation of a further 10,000 m2 of cladding to the other halls of the Exhibition Centre.
