Recticel Insulation has developed a freely available U-value calculator for anyone involved in establishing the thermal performance of a building.
Designed to give instant access to accurate calculations for common constructions, it covers the majority of Recticel’s portfolio for floors, cavity walls, timber and steel-framed walls, flat and pitched roofs and soffit lining applications.
The company says the registration-free calculator is a simplified version of the software Recticel uses itself and has been presented on www.recticelinsulation.co.uk in a user-friendly, layer-by-layer format to help build up construction elements in a logical way.
Paul Forrester, technical specialist at Recticel Insulation, said: “We support the BBA’s benchmark for the calculation of U-values, and all calculations we supply have a Competency Scheme logo on them where appropriate.
“However, sometimes customers simply want to carry out their own calculations, either because they want a quick ready-reckoner or because they want to experiment with different solutions to meet a particular U-value target.
“So we have designed our U-value calculator to be user-friendly, whilst also offering calculations as close to the Competency Scheme standard as possible without performing them ourselves.”
