Bilco UK has taken steps to enable the construction industry in its use of BIM (Building Information Modelling) by making its product BIM information available through RIBA’s (Royal Institute of British Architects) NBS (National Building Specification) National BIM library.
Architects will now have access to this resource to help them determine the most appropriate and cost-effective products for each project, without compromising on either safety or quality.
James Fisher, managing director of Bilco UK, commented: “Specifying access products has lagged behind some other areas of product specification as architects have had less experience in specifying these vital products.
“This has been due to a confusion as to whose responsibility it was to specify the product itself, rather than simply stating at planning stage that such a product must be used. The choice of access product has sometimes been handed to the builder, the M&E contractor and sometimes the roofer. With the advent of BIM and this new resource, we are certain that architects will rapidly gain expertise at specifying access products at the design stage, designing in accessibility with safety at the earliest stages, benefitting not only the construction industry but also millions of future users of new buildings.”
This latest initiative from Bilco follows its recent strides to increase safety in the industry through the increase in knowledge and expertise in the specification of access products.
To this end, the company founded its own online resource, Bilco Assist, which it says has already seen thousands of downloads of CAD sheets, BIM information and NBS building specifications from its online resource at www.bilcouk.com.
