Bracknell Roofing answers SOS

bracknellWhen the BBC’s DIY SOS team responded to a call for help in Monmouth, Wales, national roofing contractor Bracknell Roofing volunteered to strip and replace a roof in just two days.

The Bracknell team was contacted through the developer Barratt Homes, which has long standing confidence in the team’s work following previously completed projects.

When on-site, Bracknell Roofing was able to assess the work needed: the DIY crisis for this episode of the hit BBC TV show included a two-storey, split-level flat roof timber extension, which had been built onto the existing house. The challenge for the Bracknell Roofing team was to replace the roof of the extension, which was incomplete and liable to water ingress.

The company took management of the project, using the first of the two days to weatherproof the flat and pitched roof extension, protecting the inside against water ingress.

Lead detailing around the skylight also needed to be stripped out to complete the works, and the team stayed on late to make sure the project was completed to the highest quality in time for the homeowners’ return.

Fibre cement slates were specified for the lower level of the pitch and clay plain tiles for the higher level of the pitch, both of which were fitted during the second and final day of the DIY SOS challenge. To ensure a high-quality, durable finish, all of the tiles were reinstated, meaning that Bracknell Roofing could be certain the completed work was compliant to British Standards.

Colin Gregory, branch manager at Bracknell Roofing, said: “We have worked with Barratt Homes a number of times before, and as a result the company has developed trust in the high standard of work we deliver as well as the efficiency of delivery. Key to the completion of the project on time and to a high standard was being able to take ownership and management of the roofing aspect as the DIY SOS team considered the remainder of the project.
