Kingspan Insulation has raised thousands of pounds for charity following a year of fundraising activities taken up across the company.
Following a call from the company’s divisional commercial director at it’s annual sales conference – to raise as much money as possible for chosen charity Arthritis Research UK – teams from across Kingspan’s various brands took up a series of challenges and eventually raised œ6,628.34.
The first challenge involved a team from Kingspan Roofing and Structural taking on ‘The Beast of Exmoor’, which involved cycling over 50 miles through the Devonshire countryside, climbing an overall elevation of one mile. Despite a few mechanical issues and some scrapes along the way, ten out of the 12 initial team members completed the challenge and finished the ride in just over eight hours.
The Kingspan TEK team tackled the second challenge and faced England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike. A group of eight took the Great End route via the Corridor and climbed 3,209 feet above sea level, before descending via the great Gable and returning to Seathwaite. The nine and a half mile trek took just over nine hours, with the team overcoming precarious paths and dangerous drops to complete the journey.
The final challenge was completed by a group known as the ‘Bonjour Bebe Cycling Club’, which consists of cycling enthusiasts from Kingspan Insulation. Every year, the club takes Kingspan clients who share its love of cycling on “Le Tour”, tackling a challenge in the name of charity.
Following a tough period of training, both the club and its clients – who donated to the cause – faced a ‘l‚tape du tour’ through the Pyrenees. The course makes up part of the Tour de France route and included climbing the Col du Aspin (1,489 m) and The Tourmalet (2,115 m). Bonjour Bebe travelled over 175km in total, and completed the challenge in just over eight hours.
Chris Guest, divisional commercial director at Kingspan Insulation and member of the Bonjour Beb‚ Cycling Club, said: “The team included some really serious and talented athletes and I know the day’s ride tested each and every one of them to the core.”
Mr. Guest added that they were all ecstatic to have helped raise funds for the ‘incredibly worthwhile cause’, which helps those living and dealing with the debilitating condition.
Arthritis Research UK does this by funding high-class research, educating health professionals and providing information to people with arthritis and to their carers.
