Sussex roofing company wins national roofing award

Richard Soan Roofing Services, based in Lewes, has won an award at the 2019 UK Roofing Awards.

The winners of the awards, hosted by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), were announced at a ceremony presented by TV host Sarah Beeny on May 10, 2019, at The O2 InterContinental Hotel, London.  The awards celebrate the very best in the industry in all roofing disciplines recognising outstanding workmanship, problem solving, environmental qualities and contribution to the built environment.

Richard Soan Roofing Services were announced as the winners in the roof tiling category.

Managing director, Richard Soan, said: “To receive an award of this magnitude is truly amazing and a testament to the high level of skill and expertise shown by all our employees engaged on this project, from our senior site manager to the most junior site assistant. All our employees know that 100% quality workmanship is what we as a company try to achieve on every project we undertake. To be announced as a winner in a national competition is a wonderful achievement for the company and all concerned with this project should feel immensely proud.”

Old Leyands

About the winning project

Old Leylands is a beautiful country home dating from approximately 1914 situated in East Sussex. It was discovered that the original part of the house, a simple four hipped roof, may have dated from earlier times with many additions and extensions added – with various repairs having been carried out over a number of years.  The property was completely re-roofed using Sandtoft Goxhill handmade clay tiles and using sheep’s wool for insulation as it is more environmentally friendly than the more commonly used PIR solid insulation or roll-out fibreglass. This was a complex project requiring the management and coordination of many experienced roofing operatives, lead-workers, stonemasons, carpenters, decorators and our specialist rainwater sub-contractor. The customer commented that “the project was very well managed and we are delighted with the quality of the work.”
