Change is in the air for the head offices of Saint-Gobain UK & Ireland, as the company, whose mission is to ‘create great living places and improve daily life’, embraces sustainable swaps saving 260,000 cups from landfill every year.
By partnering with the UK’s only collection and recycling service for paper cups, Simply Cups, Saint-Gobain’s head office will now recycle the 5,000 coffee cups a week that previously ended up in landfill. Employees have also been issued with reusable water bottles to completely eradicate the need for plastic cups to be used for cold drinks.
Jayne Kennell (pictured), environment manager for Saint-Gobain UK & Ireland, said: “These changes will drastically reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill from our offices and contribute to the overall sustainability of our business. As a large company, employing 170,000 people across 69 countries, including 17,000 here in the UK, we have a responsibility to make positive steps towards reducing our impact on the environment.”
Electric car charging points have also been installed at offices in Coventry, East Leake and Southampton this month with other premises benefitting later in the year. Certain sites will have electric pool cars for employee-use and the company will be trialling converting fleet cars to electric models.
