Keymer, the heritage-roofing brand of Wienerberger has awarded a bespoke, hand-carved Beefeater – sculpted at the Tower of London – to James Wood, an associate architect at the Lee Evans Partnership.

The clay sculpture, which was awarded to James Wood at a recent event, was created by Ian Martinson, production team leader at Wienerberger during a celebration of Keymer’s heritage at the Tower of London in late 2015.

The company says the skills demonstrated in the carving of the Beefeater showcase the expertise harnessed within the production of the handmade tiles and in other aspects of the heritage service.

Having been used on many renowned buildings and historic homes, Keymer says it continues to utilise the same artisan approach to crafting its handmade tiles as it has since 1588.

James Wood commented: “I’m thrilled to now be the proud owner of the clay Beefeater sculpted in the prestigious Tower of London by Ian. The workmanship that has been put to use in creating the sculpture is clear to see – it’s a very impressive model and one that displays the true skill involved in hand carving clay.”
