Three years on since his passing, ALM is remembering Richard (Dick) Murdoch.
A principled man, Richard is not only remembered as an expert in the lead industry but also as a true friend and an inspiration to all at ALM.
Richard’s passion for working with lead sheet began in 1973 when, after joining the Lead Development Association (which became the Lead Sheet Association), he was immediately responsible for working with architects and specifiers on lead sheet detailing for their roof designs.
Richard quickly became recognised as the foremost technical authority on the design and specification of lead sheet for roofing and cladding, in no small part due to the publication of his research, which resulted in the first single technical reference for leadwork – Lead Sheet in Building – in 1978.
In recognition for his contribution to the lead industry and upon his retirement, The Murdoch Awards were established in 1996 by the Lead Contractors Association (LCA) of which ALM has played a key part as a main sponsor.
ALM would like to pass on their thoughts of remembrance to June Murdoch and her family, and hopes to meet up soon, when the company invites June to formally open the NCTS training facilities, which are aptly named “The Richard Murdoch training Centres of Excellence” in memory of Richard’s legacy.
