Russell Roof Tiles has created a new HR role, as part of strategic plans to retain and attract outstanding talent.
Nikki Rowbotham joins the roof tile manufacturer – which currently employs 160 people at its two sites in Burton and a further site in Lochmaben – as the first HR manager. With over eight years’ experience, Nikki has worked across public and private industries, including the innovative East Midlands business, PKF Cooper Parry.
Currently, the construction and manufacturing industry is facing its largest skills shortage and an additional 150,000 recruits by 2020 are required to keep up with the ever-growing demand.
The new appointment will be pivotal in ensuring Russell Roof is in a stronger position to attract new talent.
Nikki’s role will develop a happy, healthy, enriching work environment internally for the staff at Russell Roof Tiles, as well as encouraging home-grown talent to contribute to the future success of the business. She will also ensure that the manufacturer is fully compliant in regard to new HR legislation and requirements.
Having previously won Burton Mail’s Employer of the Year Award, Russell Roof Tiles already invests largely in HR initiatives and a number of employees have already benefitted from and enjoyed on-site and off-site training, long service awards and fundraising events.
Nikki said: “It’s really great to work with like-minded people who share your values and vision. The family-like culture of the company drew me to the position.”
Andrew Hayward, managing director at Russell Roof Tiles, added: “We already have a great record of staff retention and HR initiatives. Just last month, John Jamieson celebrated 44 years with us and we were proud to give 10 employees long service awards in 2018.
“Nikki is fantastic asset to our team. She has great experience which is harder to attract these days. She has a real drive to make a positive difference within the business and I look forward to the impact she will bring to Russell Roof Tiles.”
