The Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association (LRWA) has appointed Robert Whitton from Emperor Roofing and Richard Aldred from Sika to its Board of directors.

A former subcontractor, Robert has been working in flat roofing since 2004. With extensive experience of installing liquid-applied membranes, he founded Emperor Roofing in 2011 and continues to be the driving force behind the expanding business.

Richard is head of compliance and technical services for Sika. After leaving school, he began working in roofing contracting before joining the army and then moving into roofing manufacturing. Over the past 14 years, he has developed a vast knowledge of roofing systems and forged strong working relationships with contractors. His expertise sees him regularly contribute to technical roofing discussions and forums across the sector.

Sarah Spink, CEO of the LRWA, said: “The appointment of Robert and Richard further strengthens our Board at a time when our membership is rapidly growing and evolving. Within the last year, our contractor members have increased by more than 42% and overall, our membership is circa 30% higher.

“It’s important our Board reflects the diversity of our membership, providing the right level of support to manufacturers, contractors, associates and affiliates while helping the LRWA to deliver its strategy.

“We really appreciate the time, knowledge and commitment that Robert and Richard have pledged and look forward to working with them as we continue our growth plans.”

The appointments follow the news that Cliff Weston has stepped down as an LRWA Board director after 17 years. During his tenure, Cliff held the role of LRWA chairman when the association was going through a period of significant change. He oversaw the planning and recruitment of the association’s first CEO and was at the helm of the inaugural LRWA Awards in 2017.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Cliff for his invaluable contribution and dedication to the LRWA,” added Sarah. “In his 17 years as a Board director, Cliff was instrumental in helping the association to navigate both challenges and opportunities which have shaped who we are today.”
