The managing director of J Wright Roofing is to be made a Freeman of the City of London alongside a line-up of well-known figures, including David Beckham and actor Morgan Freeman.
Jason Wright, who also serves as head of the East Midlands Roofing College, will receive the honour in December from Lord Mayor of London, Fiona Woolf.
Mr. Wright, who is a Master Craftsman of the Worshipful company of Bricklayers and Tylers – which is one of the ancient livery companies in the City of London – is the first roof ?tyler’ to be made a Freeman in nearly 500 years.
He said: “Being a Master Craftsman then meant I was interviewed by the current Master and other liverymen in central London with a view to me becoming a Freeman of the Guild which I achieved in September.
“I went for an interview at the Guildhall in the city in October and then I found out I would become a Freeman of the City of London. It’s a real honour and privilege and is not given out lightly. It’s hereditary so I can pass the honour onto my son or daughter.”
As well as Morgan Freeman and David Beckham, Mr. Wright will join other distinguished figures in receiving the honour, including Sir Ian McKellen, Angela Lansbury and Dame Helen Mirren.
Mr. Wright added: “I absolutely thrilled about being a Freeman. It’s not only great news for me, but also Nottingham. To be in such a well-known lineup is great news for me – a roofer from Nottingham!”
J Wright Roofing is based in Bulwell and carries out roofing works all over the UK. Jason Wright set up the business in the recession of 1991 after being made redundant and went on to establish the East Midlands Roofing College in 2011.
