Personalised heritage tiles at National Trust building

Wienerberger is working with the National Trust to reroof The Vyne Mansion, a prestigious and historic building near Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Keymer, Wienerberger’s handmade roof tile brand, has been specified for the work, which will see the entire roof of the building re-laid in October of this year with Keymer’s Traditional Antique Plain Tiles.

Following the specification, Wienerberger has hosted ‘Make a Tile’ and ‘Tag a Tile’ events at the site, with the help of National Trust volunteers. These saw locals visit the mansion to create personalised heritage tiles, involving the community in this significant and exciting project.

The ‘Make a Tile’ event gave visitors the opportunity to visit Wienerberger’s Keymer stand – a scaled down version of the set up at the brand’s Ewhurst factory ¬– complete with moulds, clay bats, sand and drying trays.

Over the course of the two days, each tile made by the public was personalised with the maker’s own handprint, along with a message.

Alongside this, the ‘Tag a Tile’ event saw guests at The Vyne write messages and draw pictures on their tiles.

Nigel Dyer, heritage service manager at Wienerberger, commented: “We had constant queues at our stands over the weekend, during which the National Trust looked after us really well, and was really impressed with the enthusiasm generated amongst visitors. We’re now looking forward to the next steps and seeing the completed roof unveiled to the public.”
